Coronavirus LIVE: 97 persons died on Shramik trains, govt tells Rajya Sabha

Coronavirus update: India on Friday recorded 90,000+ cases for the third day consecutively. Caseload in the country has reached 5,305,387. Death toll has surged past the 85,000-mark to 85,621. In the past seven days alone, India has recorded 647,394 coronavirus cases. The worst-hit states are Maharashtra (1,167,496) Andhra Pradesh (608,000), Tamil Nadu (525,000), Karnataka (500,000), and UP (336,000). Delhi recorded 4,127 fresh coronavirus cases, taking its tally to 238,000. Maharashtra recorded 21,656 news cases.

Coronavirus vaccine update: Three of the nearly 30 coronavirus vaccine candidates in India are in advanced stages of clinical trials, while four are in pre-clinical development stage, Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said on Friday in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha.

World coronavirus update: The global tally of coronavirus cases stands at 30,587,896. While 22,245,148 have recovered, 953,828 have died so far. The US, the worst-hit country, 6,897,735 cases. It is followed by India, which has 5,305,387 cases, Brazil (4,466,828) and Russia (1,091,186).

Tripura reports 535 new Covid-19 cases, 7 fresh fatalities
Tripura's COVID-19 tally rose to 21,507 on Saturday as 535 more people tested positive for the infection, a health official said.
 

Seven fresh fatalities pushed the northeastern state's coronavirus death toll to 235, he said.
 

West Tripura district, under which Agartala falls, has accounted for 130 of the 235 COVID-19 deaths reported in the state so far, the official said.

UP's Covid-19 tally rises to 3,48,517 with 5,827 new cases
With 5,827 fresh COVID-19 cases, the total number of those infected by the virus in Uttar Pradesh went up to 3,48,517 on Saturday.
 

A total 4,953 fatalities have been reported in the state so far while the number of active cases stood at 66,874, Additional Chief Secretary Health, Amit Mohan Prasad.

Jharkhand: District judge tests positive for Covid-19
A district judge has tested positive for COVID-19 in Jharkhand, an official said on Saturday.
 

The samples of Latehar Principal District and Sessions Judge Vishnu Kant Sahay were collected for a COVID-19 test on Friday, the result of which returned as positive, Civil Surgeon Dr S K Srivastava said.

The coronavirus pandemic has killed 41 and infected 22,353 armed forces personnel, according to details provide by the government in Rajya Sabha on Saturday.
 

Minister of State for Defence Shripad Naik said a series of measures have been put in place to check the spread of the coronavirus infection in the armed forces which included a campaign on preventive measures.

Phase-III trial of Oxford vaccine to begin in Pune next week
The phase-III human clinical trial of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Oxford University and being manufactured by the Serum Institute of India (SII) will begin at the Sassoon General Hospital in Pune next week.

Congress moves adjournment motion in LS over spike in Covid-19 cases
Congress chief whip in Lok Sabha Koddikunil Suresh on Saturday gave an adjournment motion notice in the Lower House on the issue of the rising cases of coronavirus in the country.
 

The Congress leader had further asked the Central Government to provide compensation to the kins of those who have died after contracting the infection and also minimum charges for the treatment of the patients receiving treatment for the coronavirus at the private hospitals.

Stroke patients with Covid-19 have increased inflammation, stroke severity and death: Study
Stroke patients who also have COVID-19 showed increased systemic inflammation, more serious stroke severity, and a much higher rate of death, compared to stroke patients who did not have COVID-19, according to new research.
 

The research was led by Chen Lin, M.D., an assistant professor in the Department of Neurology University of Alabama, Birmingham.

Leader of Opposition in the Uttarakhand Assembly Indira Hridayesh has tested positive for COVID-19, Pradesh Congress vice president Dhirendra Pratap said on Saturday.
 

Her test report came positive late on Friday night. Hridayesh is being brought here to be admitted at the Max Hospital, he said.

Expertise of WHO chief scientist to be sought: Puducherry CM
Jolted by the two per cent COVID-19 fatality rate here, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy on Saturday said the territorial government would consult the World Health Organisation (WHO) for steps to reduce the rate.
 

Addressing reporters here, the Chief Minister said a meeting has been planned with the chief scientist of the WHO Sowmya Swaminathan next week to get suggestions and recommendations to cut the death rate.
