Hillary Clinton says she wants to be Facebook CEO. Is Zuckerberg listening?

Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton might be willing to swap a life in politics to lead the world's largest social-networking company, a media report said.
On being asked by Attorney General Maura Healey, a Democrat from Massachusetts, which company she would want to be the CEO of, Clinton didn't pause before quickly answering "Facebook", CNET reported on Friday.

"It's the biggest news platform in the world. Most people in our country get their news -- true or not from Facebook," Clinton was quoted as saying.
The former US presidential candidate was at Harvard on Friday receiving the Radcliffe Medal, which honours people who have "had a transformative impact on society".
Facebook is working to win back its users' trust following a series of recent controversies, including the Cambridge Analytica scandal, in which data from as many as 87 million Facebook users were improperly shared with the political consultancy.
In a bid to prevent foreign interference into elections, Facebook has also begun labelling all political and issue ads in the US -- including a "Paid for by" disclosure from the advertiser at the top of the advertisement.
Advertisers wanting to run ads with political content in the US will also need to verify their identity and location.

SRH prevailed over Kolkata Knight Riders with a margin of just 14 runs at Eden Gardens in Qualifier 2 to seal a place in the coveted final.

They have rarely lost momentum in the current series, with the old guards and new sensations firing in unison. In their final league game at their adopted home ground in Pune, Chennai Super Kings rode on Suresh Raina's gutsy half century to romp home by five wickets. Later, in the Qualifier-1, a match where most of the CSK batsmen got out cheaply against SRH, opener Faf du Plessis smashed a match-winning half-century to help Chennai reach their seventh IPL final. Ambati Rayudu, the other opener in Chennai's side, has been the standout performer with 586 runs and also performed well in the middle order. Australian Shane Watson has also been in top form, accumulating 438 runs from 13 matches, while Raina, skipper Dhoni and all-rounder Deepak Chahar have been the backbone of CSK's middle order.
In the bowling front, former two-time champions Chennai Super Kings will bank on young South African Lungi Ngidi, who has six wickets from 10 games with a decent economy rate of 5.90. With Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar and Dwayne Bravo doing their bit on the pace bowling front, CSK will lean on veteran Harbhajan Singh's spearheading the spin attack with left-armer Ravindra Jadeja in the middle overs.
On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad are mostly bank on their bowling, which has a lot of variety and some of the best names in the business. Afghan spinner Rashid Khan has been brilliant throughout the season, bagging 21 wickets from 16 games. The leggie came up with a sensational figure of 3/19 against KKR in Qualifier 2, apart from a quick-fire cameo of 34 off just 10 balls. The New Zealand skipper, rated as one of the best batters of the current generation, has so far amassed 688 runs in 16 games at an average of 52.92. Williamson has also led admirably on the field.
Opener Shikhar Dhawan has also been good, amassing 471 runs from 15 games and Hyderabad's opening will mostly rely on him. The middle-order however, looks a bit shaky and needs to find its touch for one last time in IPL 2018 as Manish Pandey, Wriddhiman Saha, Shakib Al Hasan and Yusuf Pathan have failed to live up to expectations. What Dhoni said ahead of IPL 2018 final and about Indian fast bowler Deepak Chahar: Chennai Super Kings skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni said that the consistency of the Indian fast bowlers was one of the big positives IPL 2018. "I think every season of IPL has produced very good Indian domestic players, who have come up and have done well for their respective teams," Dhoni said before today's final against Sunrisers Hyderabad. While Dhoni's side has young pacers like Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar, who have performed exceptionally well, others young seamers like Shivam Mavi, Prasidh Krishna too made a mark. IPL hinders players' growth in first-class cricket, says Andy Flower: England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) stand-in director Andy Flower says participation in the Indian Premier League hinders many "growth opportunities" for the country's players in first-class cricket. As many as 12 England players, including Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes and Jos Buttler, featured in this year's IPL. "The ECB position, at the moment, is to allow some of our best players to go to the IPL. And a lot of people will say things have thankfully moved on from the time I made my decisions around subjects like the IPL," Flower was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo. When he was the England coach, Flower was often sceptical of English players' participation in the IPL at the expense of their performance in Test cricket, which put him at loggerheads with stars such as Kevin Pietersen.
Eden Gardens, best ground of IPL 2018: Kolkata Knight Riders may have lost in the final race but its home venue, the hallowed Eden Gardens, was voted as the best ground in IPL 2018. In a tweet, former India captain Sourav Ganguly revealed this ahead of the official BCCI announcement on Sunday and also thanked the ground staff for their contribution. "The CAB is happy to inform that Eden Gardens has once again been awarded the best venue and ground of IPL 2018," the Cricket Association of Bengal president wrote on his official Twitter handle. This season, Eden Gardens went on to host nine matches of IPL 2018 after getting two bonus matches in the playoffs which were originally slated in Pune.

Why seat-sharing for 2019 Lok Sabha polls in UP could be an uphill task

Even as attempts are underway to forge opposition unity ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha polls to take on the BJP, the seat-sharing among these parties may not be an easy task in Uttar Pradesh.
BSP supremo Mayawati has already made it clear that her party will enter into any alliance only if it gets a "respectable share" of the seats to contest.

Otherwise it would see fighting on its own as a better option.
The statement is seen as an attempt to assert BSP's claim for seats and to put pressure on the SP and the Congress to offer it a "respectable" number of seats.
Of the 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, a major chunk of 73 seats (including two of Apna Dal) were won by the BJP in 2014 general elections.
While the SP and the Congress got five and two seats respectively, the BSP had failed to even open its account.
During the 2017 Assembly polls, the catchy one liner "UP ko ye saath pasand hai" dotting the state's political skyline, did not get reflected on the ground as candidates of the fledgling alliance partners -- the SP and the Congress -- crossed swords in over a dozen Assembly seats.
This was despite both Congress President Rahul Gandhi and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav themselves finalising the seat-sharing formula.
As per the understanding, it was agreed that out of the 403 assembly seats, the SP would contest 298 and Congress the rest 105.
"The seat-sharing is always an issue among the parties in an alliance, with everyone wanting to get maximum number of seats. If an alliance is to be formed, the opposition should timely decide on seat sharing," political analyst JP Shukla said.
After the defeat of BJP candidates in Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya's Lok Sabha constitutencies in Gorakhpur and Phulpur bye-elections by SP candidates supported by BSP, Akhilesh himself went to Mayawati to thank her for the support.
In Rajya Sabha elections, SP supported BSP candidate Bhimrao Ambedkar.
Though he could not win, SP ensured his victory during the state legislative council polls.
"Alliance is the need of the hour to defeat the BJP. People of the state are fed up with it and are looking at a chance to defeat it. The seat-sharing formula will be decided by our leadership at the opportune time," SP leader Rajpal Kashyap said.
BSP president Mayawati on Saturday told her partymen that though the BSP was discussing alliances with other parties for future polls in UP and other states, they should be prepared for any situation.
She said the stand of the party while entering into any alliance in any election has been to get a "respectable share of the seats to contest. Otherwise, it sees fighting on its own as a better option".
Mayawati, who was part of the show of unity among opposition parties at the swearing-in ceremony of Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy is going to prove a "hard bargainer," analysts feel.
For the state Congress leaders, it may be largely decided by central leadership.

Employers to save 9 bn annually as EPFO cuts administrative charges to 0.5%

Now over 500,000 employers together would save around Rs 9 billion annually following the retirement fund body EPFO's decision to cut administrative charges, with effect from June 1, 2018.
The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation's (EPFO) trustees had decided to cut the administrative charges to 0.50 per cent from 0.65 per cent of total wage paid by employers in its meeting on February 21, 2018.

"The labour ministry has notified the decision to cut administrative charges, which would be effective from June 1, 2018. This will encourage employers to formalise their workers employment by bringing them under the ambit of social security schemes run by the EPFO," the retirement fund body's Central Provident Fund Commissioner V P Joy told PTI.
The EPFO decided to cut the administrative charges in view of its expanding business and high recovery of such fees.
According to the EPFO estimates, the employers would save in total around Rs 9 billion annually after this move.
During the last fiscal, the EPFO had collected around Rs 38 billion as administrative charges from the employers for running its social security schemes.
The EPFO has accumulated surplus of over Rs 200 billion in the administrative charges account which earns an interest income of over Rs 16 billion per annum.
Explaining the rationale behind cutting administrative charges, Joy said the EPFO would not be affected by the cut in administrative charges because of increasing subscribers' contribution base.
The administrative charges are levied as proportion of total wages of employees on which employers pays their contribution.
The EPFO had reduced administrative charges from 1.10 per cent to 0.85 per cent from January 1, 2015. It was further reduced to 0.65 per cent from April 1, 2017.
The EPFO has a subscribers' base of over 500 million and the body manages a corpus of over Rs 10 trillion at present.

TCS spent Rs 15 bn on R&D & innovation in FY18, up 17% over last year

India's largest IT services firm TCS increased its spending on research and development and innovation initiatives by over 17 per cent to Rs 15 billion in 2017-18, compared to the previous year.
Its total R&D and innovation expenditures stood at Rs 12.78 billion in 2016-17, as per the company's annual report.

Of its expenditure in FY18, Rs 2.98 billion was spent on R&D, while Rs 12.02 billion was directed towards innovation centres, it added.
This is about 1.2 per cent of TCS' total turnover for the fiscal.
A crown jewel of the salt-to-software services conglomerate Tata Group, TCS had a consolidated total income of Rs 1.26 trillion in FY2017-18, while its profit for the fiscal was at Rs 258.80 billion. The company has a workforce of about 394,000 people.
TCS has Innovation Labs located in India and other parts of the world. The R&D centres, certified by Department of Scientific & Industrial Research (Government of India), function from Pune, Chennai, Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai.
The Mumbai-based company said its research and innovation (R&I) activities and outcomes were aligned to its focus areas like personalisation, new value creation models and ecosystems leverage and are enabled by technologies like agility, cloud and automation.
The company's teams in research, incubation, innovation and the Co-Innovation Network have worked on the 'Ideas to Execution' process, and delivered value to the business and to social causes as well, the report said.
As of March 31, 2018, TCS has applied for 3,916 patents, including 522 applied during the year. It has been granted 654 patents till date.
"Digital reimagination of industry and society, and industrialisation of software and computing will both continue to be the focus of TCS R&I. Engagement with all its businesses with its Co-Innovation Network, and with society at large will continue," it said.

Urjit Patel to brief parliamentary panel on mounting NPAs, banking frauds

RBI Governor Urjit Patel will appear before a parliamentary panel on June 12, of which former prime minister Manmohan Singh is a member, to brief them about banking frauds and mounting non-performing assets (NPAs).
Patel will talk about the conditions of nationalised banks in view of rising NPAs and the future course of action to tackle bank frauds.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance is headed by senior Congress leader Veerappa Moily and has members from almost all major political parties.
Members of the panel said the governor of the central bank will also answer queries on a spate of banking scams unearthed in the last few months.
The committee was earlier briefed by Financial Services Secretary Rajiv Kumar on the queries related to the banking sector.
Former prime minister Manmohan Singh, who is a member of the committee, is likely to attend the meeting on June 12.
Patel had recently said that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) did not have adequate powers to deal with public sector banks.
We would like to know what kind of powers the RBI governor needs, a member said, adding that regulation is an important part and that is why the governor has been called.

IPO market hots up as 3 dozen companies line up listings worth Rs 350 bn

The IPO lane seems to get busier as three dozen companies have lined up initial share sale plans worth Rs 350 billion in the coming months, largely to fund their expansion projects and working capital requirement.
These include six state-run entities -- Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency, Rail Vikas Nigam, IRCON International, RITES, Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers and Mazagon Dock -- as the government intends to unlock the real value of such PSUs and bring in greater accountability.

Of these three dozen firms, most of these companies plan to utilise initial public offer (IPO) proceeds for business expansion as well as working capital requirements, as per the draft papers filed with the Securities and Exchange Board of India.
Besides, some of the firms believe the listing of equity shares on bourses will enhance their brand name and provide liquidity to existing shareholders.
"After raising record funds through IPOs in 2017, the primary markets in this year will also witness healthy fundraising activity driven by improving utilisation levels across industries and tightening of credit availability on account of poor state of affairs in banking industry," Director, Capital Market of Equirus Capital Munish Aggarwal said.
In this year, Barbeque-Nation Hospitality, TCNS Clothing Company, Nazara Technologies and Devi Seafoods are among the 12 companies that have secured Sebi's nod to float their public offers.
In addition, 24 companies including Route Mobile, CreditAccess Grameen, Sembcorp Energy India, Flemingo Travel Retail and Lodha Developers are awaiting the regulator's approval to float IPOs.
Together, these companies are expected to raise about Rs 350 billion, merchant banking sources said.
Moreover, 15 companies including ICICI Securities, Bandhan Bank, Hindustan Aeronautics and Mishra Dhatu Nigam have already hit the capital markets so far this year.
According to experts, the IPO market will continue to see hectic activity as over a dozen firms are awaiting Sebi's nod to launch their public issues.
"The IPO market is buoyant for good quality company issues which are priced cautiously. There is investor appetite for companies which price their IPOs keeping money-on-table for investors," J Kalyaniwala, vice president of investment banking at Prabhudas Lilladher said.
The year 2017 saw 36 companies collectively raising a record over Rs 670 billion through their respective initial share-sales. The previous high being in 2010 when Rs 37.5 billionwas garnered, almost half the amount.
Experts said that proactive regulatory environment coupled with uplifted investor sentiment has helped the IPO market.
