Coronavirus LIVE: India adds 9,985 cases in a day; total tally at 276,583

Coronavirus update: The total number of coronavirus cases in India has jumped to 276,583, while 7,745 people have died from the disease so far, showed data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Wednesday. Close to 6,000 recoveries pushed the total number of cured/discharged patients to 135,206. The count of active cases now stands at 133,632.
Now only a notch behind the UK in terms of number of confirmed coronavirus, India at present is the ffifth-most-afftected conuntry.
Raising alarm over a surge in the national capital lately and throwing residents into a tizzy, the Delhi government on Tuesday projected almost a 20-fold rise in Covid-19 cases in the city by July-end. After a meeting with Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal and other top officials, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia told reporters that estimates suggested 550,000 positive cases by July 31.
Coronavirus world update: The global tally of coronavirus cases is 7,312,198, and 413,003 people have died from the disease so far.

While 279 fatalities took the country's tol death toll to 7,745, close to 6,000 recoveries pushed the total number of cured/discharged patients to 135,206. The count of active cases now stands at 133,632.

Leading food company Parle Products logged record sales of its Parle-G biscuits, preferred for mass consumption, in April and May during the lockdown, said a senior company official. The company has gained a market share of around 5 per cent in the highly competitive biscuit segment, helped by Parle-G biscuits, which was proffered by the people while stocking pantry during the pandemic.

1,366 more COVID-19 cases in Delhi, tally rises to 31,309
As many as 1,366 new Covid-19 cases have been reported from Delhi in the last 24 hours, taking its tally to 31,309. "There are 18,543 active cases in Delhi. 11,861 patients have recovered/discharged/migrated. The death toll due to coronavirus stands at 905," the Delhi Health Department said in a release. The tally of Covid-19 cases in India reached 2,66,598 on Tuesday. The death toll has reached 7,471, accordinfg to Union Health and Family Welfare ministry.

Watch: Lockdown eased, temples reopen, but no respite for sellers of prasad, flowers
Following relaxations in the Covid-19 lockdown, the religious places in most parts of the country have reopened. But shopkeepers who sell flowers and prasad outside temples have been left in the lurch amid government order disallowing physical offerings in temples. According to shopkeepers in Kanpur, they were already facing financial hardships due to lockdown and now physical offerings are also banned. According to the guidelines, prasad distribution or a sprinkling of holy water is not allowed inside religious places. Watch it here.

Watch: Kuwait Airways brings back 45 stranded Indians to Indore
A Kuwait Airways special flight carrying around 45 Indian passengers from Kuwait landed at Devi Ahilyabai Holkar International Airport in Indore on June 9. The passengers were examined by the State Health Department after which they were sent for 14 days to the quarantine centre. Apart from a few travellers from Indore, the rest were from different districts in which most belonged to labour class. Watch it here.

Spurt in corona cases causes concern in Agra
With two more deaths and 11 new COVID-19 cases reported till Tuesday evening, alarm bells have started ringing again in Agra. The death toll in the city now is 53 and the total number of corona cases has soared to 991. However, District Magistrate P N Singh said 882 had recovered while 116 were under treatment. The number of samples had increased to 15,498. Health officials explained that the surge in cases was due to increase in sample tests. A large number of deaths were of patients who had a past history of morbidities.

Japan's machinery orders, wholesale prices sink as pandemic hits business spending
Japan's machinery orders slumped in April at their quickest pace in nearly two years, as a drop in demand and company profits caused by the coronavirus pandemic paralysed businesses spending. Separate data showed May wholesale prices fell at the fastest annual pace in nearly four years, keeping alive market fears Japan may slide back into deflation. The weak readings will pressure policymakers to take bolder action to support an economy already headed for deeper recession caused by the pandemic.

Watch: Hotels staffers in PPE kits are serving customers in Patna
Shopping malls, restaurants and hotels have reopened in many states across the country following a relaxation of the nationwide lockdown, even as Covid-19 cases are rising daily. Hotels in Patna city were on June 9 seen following the strict guidelines by the Centre and also taking extra precautions for the safety of their staff and customers. Watch: Religious places in Meghalaya to remain shut till June 30
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has informed that the Meghalaya government has put on hold the reopening of religious institutions in the state. Meghalaya, which had previously decided to reopen on June 14, decided to delay it in view of a surge in number of coronavirus cases after CM Sangma’s meeting with different religious organisations on June 9. "Based on the majority view, we have decided that we will not be opening up places of worship till the end of this month (June 30). Towards the end of the month, we will once again consult everybody and then decide the way forward," the CM said. Watch it here.

Manipur has seen a sudden surge in daily new cases
The northeastern state of Manipur on June 9 reported its highest ever single-day spike of 100 new cases. In the past two weeks, the number of daily new cases in the state had been sub-30. Manipur had under 10 cases until May 20. Now it has 282 confirmed cases, of which 218 are still active. There have been no deaths in the state so far.
