Coronavirus LIVE: India cases at 1,637; search on for Delhi mosque visitors

Coronavirus India update: India said on Wednesday it had more than 1,600 coronavirus patients and 39 deaths from the disease, urging people to stay indoors during a three-week national lockdown.

Ajit Pawar, Maharashtra’s deputy chief minister, warned of stricter measures to enforce the lockdown if people "didn’t behave". Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said his government will give Rs 1 crore to families if medical or other professionals died while serving coronavirus patients.
Government officials nationwide are identifying people who attended a gathering of almost 4,000 in Delhi’s Markaz Nizamuddin in mid-March, saying the place has emerged as a coronavirus hotspot.

Spain death toll tops 9,000 as infections pass 100,000
The coronavirus death toll in Spain surged over 9,000 on Wednesday after a record 864 deaths in 24 hours, with the number of confirmed cases passing the 100,000 mark, the government said.

Spain has the world's second-highest death toll after Italy, with the virus so far claiming 9,053 lives and the number of confirmed cases reaching 102,136, although the rate of new infections continued its downward trend, health ministry figures showed.

Delhi cancer hospital shut after doctor tests positive for coronavirus
Delhi State Cancer Institute has been shut for a day after a doctor tested positive for COVID-19, an official said on Wednesday.

According to the official, the Delhi government-run institute is being disinfected and that is why it has been shut for a day. The doctor, who tested positive for coronavirus, worked at the institute.

Coronavirus update: 35 people who attended Nizamuddin event traced to Ahmednagar
At least 35 people who were part of a gathering at a religious congregation held in Delhi's Nizamuddin area last month have been traced to Maharashtra's Ahmednagar district, an official said on Wednesday.

As many as 29 of them are nationals from Indonesia, Tanzania, South Africa, Ghana and other countries, while the rest are locals, he said.

Coronavirus latest update: Pune woman tests negative for after 14-day isolation
In a big relief, a COVID-19 patient from Maharashtra's Pune city tested negative for the infection on Wednesday, after remaining "critical" on ventilator during her 14-day isolation period. The woman, who is an anganwadi worker, was taken off the ventilator and responding well to the treatment, a doctor at Bharti Hospital said.
"On March 30, the patient was given minimal setting on a ventilator and she responded to verbal communication. After eight hours of extubation, she has been on nasal oxygen and vitally stable," he said.

81 Tablighi Jamaat returnees suspected in Bihar, 30 identified
Altogether 81 people are said to have travelled to different parts of Bihar after attending a congregation of Tablighi Jamaat in New Delhi's Nizamuddin, which has emerged as a COVID-19 hotspot, a top Health department official said here on Wednesday.

Thirty of the 81 people have been identified and subjected to medical examination, including 17 Kyrgyztan nationals, he said.

UP: 26 booked for negligence after fleeing from quarantine facility
Police have booked 26 people for negligence after they fled from a quarantine facility in Uttar Pradesh's Gosaiganj area, an official said on Wednesday.

SP Shivhari Meena said in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, 115 people who had returned from other states were kept at Gosaiganj's Kamla Nehru Institute , of which 26 fled on Tuesday night.

Zydus Wellness launches hand sanitizer under Nycil brand to meet growing demand
Zydus Group firm Zydus Wellness on Wednesday said it has forayed into hand sanitizer category with the launch of its product under 'Nycil' brand in the country to meet the rising demand due to COVID-19 outbreak.

The company had acquired the Nycil brand as part of its acquisition of Heinz India.

The company decided to roll out this product in a record time of 12 days, as a response to the current pandemic. Nycil sanitizer consists of neem and aloevera extracts that helps kill 99.9 per cent germs, Zydus Wellness said.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday announced Rs one crore for the families of healthcare personnel if they lose their lives while dealing with coronavirus cases in the national capital.

Interacting with doctors, the chief minister said that at present, the Delhi government gives Rs one crore to the families of soldiers belonging to the national capital if they die in the line of duty.

82 coronavirus cases in Gujarat; search on for Nizamuddin returnees
The number of coronavirus cases in Gujarat rose to 82 on Wednesday after eight more people tested positive, officials said, adding that efforts were on to trace nearly 1,500 people from the state who recently visited Delhi's Nizamuddin area.

A religious congregation held earlier this month at Nizamuddin West has turned out to be one of the major COVID-19 hotspots in the country.

Coronavirus death toll rises to six in Bangladesh, positive cases surge to 54
Bangladesh on Wednesday confirmed another death from the novel coronavirus, taking the death toll in the country to six while the number of positive cases rose to 54 with health authorities expressing fear that community level transmission might have begun on a limited scale.

Bangladesh has extended the ongoing nationwide lockdown to April 9 to curb the spread of the deadly virus, which has claimed over 40,000 lives across the globe.
