Coronavirus LIVE updates: Section 144 imposed in Chhattisgarh for 3 months

Coronavirus India update: With 5,242 new cases, India has recorded its highest single-day jump in its number of total coronavirus cases. The country's tally has risen to 96,169. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, 3,029 people have died from the disease and 36,824 have recovered so far. From today, India enters the fourth phase of its nationwide lockdown. Restrictions under Section 144 of CRPC have been extended for the next three months in Chhattisgarh.

District-wise details of the new lockdown phase, in force till May 31, will be announced today. Lockdown 4.0 comes with some relaxations to pave the way for an increased movement of people and to facilitate more economic activity.
Meanwhile, India has backed calls to identify how the Sars-CoV-2 virus that causes Covid-19 was transmitted from animals to humans and conduct an ‘impartial’ evaluation of the World Health Organization’s (WHO's) response to the pandemic, according to a draft resolution proposed for the WHO’s annual meet beginning today.
Coronavirus world update: Globally,4,805,210 people have been infected by coronavirus so far, and the total number of deaths from the disease now stands at 316,703, according to Worldometer.

Wuhan won't charge residents for expanded nucleic acid tests
Wuhan, the capital of China's Hubei province where the Covid-19 pandemic originated last December, will not charge residents as the city moves to expand its nucleic acid tests to cover every individual who has not been tested for the novel coronavirus.

The city's health commission said in a statement on Monday that the costs of the tests will be borne by the district and municipal governments, and no personal payment was required, reports Xinhua news agency.

Six more COVID-19 cases in Bihar, state tally reaches 1,326
Six more COVID-19 cases have been reported from Bihar, taking the total number of coronavirus cases in the state to 1,326 on Monday, said Principal Secretary (Health), Sanjay Kumar.

According to Kumar, while three cases were reported from the Saharsa district, one each was also reported Supaul, Khagaria, and Begusarai.

WHO prepares to host 73rd Assembly
The World Health Organization (WHO), which has been at the forefront of the global fight against the coronavirus pandemic, was preparing to launch one of its most complex assemblies since its inception.

On Monday, representatives of the UN's 194 member states will gather for the 73rd Assembly devoted almost entirely to strengthen global coordination against the pandemic, reports Efe news.

The assembly will last two days and will be held in a virtual format due to restrictions in place to curb the spread of the virus which originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan last December.

Among states, the total case tally of Maharashtra has gone past 33,000 (at 33,053), with a massive jump in daily addition of 2,347 cases (its highest single-day jump). The state has added more than 1,000 cases on 12 days in a row — 17,528 cases (53% of total) added in these 12 days. Maharashtra accounts for 34% of all coronavirus cases, and 43% of active cases, in the country.

Japan's economy in recession, Q1 GDP shrinks annualised 3.4%
Japan's economy contracted an annualised 3.4 per cent during the January to March quarter as coronavirus pandemic continues to have a significant impact, according to government data released on Monday.

It is the second straight contraction, NHK reported adding that analysts are bracing for the economy to take a bigger hit from the pandemic in the April to June quarter.

The world's third-largest economy shrank 0.9 per cent in the January to March period compared to the prior quarter. But the drop was more dramatic -- a 3.4 per cent fall -- when measured as an annualised rate.

Two more Covid-19 deaths, 140 fresh cases in Rajasthan
Rajasthan on Monday recorded two more deaths due to coronavirus and 140 new cases of the virus, officials said.

The number of cases in the state stands at 5,342 and deaths at 133.

The deaths were reported in Kota and Nagaur, additional chief secretary (health), Rohit Kumar Singh, said.
