Coronavirus LIVE: Delhi reports 4,321 new cases, 28 deaths in 24 hours

 Coronavirus update: India has recorded its biggest 24-hour spike of 97,654 coronavirus cases. With this, India's tally has surged to 4,657,379. Death toll currently stands at 77,506. In the past seven days, India has recorded 636,889 Covid cases. After record daily spike of 248,86 cases, Maharashtra's Covid tally crosses 1-million mark. Kerala's total number of coronavirus cases has surpassed 100,000 and Uttar Pradesh's tally is nearing 300,000. Delhi reported 4,266 fresh corona cases, taking tally to over 209,000. Sixty per cent of the daily new Covid-19 recoveries in India are from Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh, which also account for 57 per cent of the new cases, according to MoHFW.
 
Coronavirus vaccine update: Immunogenicity study conducted on mice for coronavirus vaccine candidate being developed by National Institute of Immunology has shown encouraging results, said NII Director Amulya Panda. Drugs Controller General of India has directed Serum Institute of India to suspend till further orders new recruitment in phase 2 and 3 clinical trials of the Oxford coronavirus vaccine candidate.
 
World coronavirus update: The global tally of coronavirus cases stands at 28,639,357. While 20,561,730 have recovered, 918,928 have died so far. The US, the worst-hit country, has 6,635,933 cases. It is followed by India, which has 4,657,379 cases, Brazil (4,283,978) and Russia (1,051,874).

India's total case tally crosses 46 lakh mark
With the highest spike of 97,570 new cases of COVID-19 reported in the last 24 hours, India's coronavirus tally has gone beyond the 46-lakh mark, the central government said on Saturday.

With this latest spike, the count of COVID-19 cases stands at 46,59,985 of which, there are a total of 9,58,316 active cases while 36,24,197 patients have been cured/discharged/migrated, the Union health ministry said.

The current death toll due to coronavirus in the country rose to 77,472 after 1,201 deaths due to COVID-19 were reported in the last 24 hours.

Assam has no data on post-COVID deaths, survey needed to find out details: Minister
Assam Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said the state does not have any data on "post-COVID deaths" and coronavirus patients dying with comorbidities.

Addressing a press conference here, Sarma said all the data related to COVID-19 will have to be "refined" after the pandemic is over.

"The post-COVID deaths are more (than the official figure of COVID-19 fatalities). I do not know that because some people died at home and some at private hospitals after they recovered from COVID-19 and were discharged," he said.

The state government does not have the data of post- COVID deaths and a survey will have to be conducted to find that out, he said.

Record single-day spike of 3,120 cases in Chhattisgarh
Chhattisgarh on Saturday saw its biggest single-day spike of 3,120 coronavirus cases, which took its tally to 61,763, a health department official said.

The death toll due to the pandemic mounted to 539 after 21 people succumbed to the infection and co- morbidities between September 9-12, he added.

As many as 759 people were discharged from various hospitals following recovery while 96 patients completed their home isolation, the official said.

Goa's COVID-19 tally crosses 24,000; 10 die
Goa on Saturday reported 740 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total count of infections to 24,185, a state health department official said.

With ten more fatalities, the total toll mounted to 286.

511 people were discharged after treatment in the day, taking the count of recoveries to 18,576, he said.

With 1,669 fresh Covid-19 cases, Rajasthan's tally goes past 1 lakh
Rajasthan's COVID-19 tally crossed the 1-lakh mark on Saturday as 1,669 more people tested positive for the disease, while the toll climbed to 1,221 with 14 fresh fatalities, officials said.

With the new cases, the state's virus count stands at 1,00,705, they said.

Of the latest fatalities, two were reported from Jaipur, while Ajmer, Barmer, Bikaner, Bundi, Churu, Jaisalmer, Jhalawar, Jhunjhunu, Jodhpur, Pratapgarh, Sikar and Udaipur reported one each.

Process to elect next party president set in motion: Cong
The Congress on Saturday said that Sonia Gandhi has made organisational changes after authorisation from the party's working committee and has set in motion the process of election of the next party president by constituting an election authority.

Asked about the organisational changes made by Gandhi and the subsequent reported statements by some leaders who had written to her over party reforms, Congress' chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said he had not seen a single statement by any Congress leader on the issue and cannot comment on that.

Principal secy to PM reviews COVID-19 response in India, calls for evidence-based preparedness
Amid a record surge in coronavirus infections in the country, P K Mishra, the principal secretary to the prime minister, on Saturday called for building on the knowledge and analysis of the pandemic developed over the last few months to work out a detailed action plan for the coming days.
 
Reviewing the COVID-19 response in the country, the principal secretary directed all concerned to develop an evidence-based preparedness on all aspects of the disease with the active participation of districts and states for effectiveness, the Union Health Ministry said in a statement.
