Coronavirus LIVE: Global death toll crosses 25,000 mark; cases 552,571

Covid-19 continues to extend its footprint in India with the number of cases reaching 724 and rising death toll.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) today slashed key repo rate by 75 basis points (bps) to 4.4 per cent to bolster economy in the wake of covid-19 menace. "Large part of major global economies are likely to be heading toward recession," the RBI governor said.
World update: The US on Friday surpassed China in Covid-19 cases. The global infections have crossed 550,000 mark. As many as 25,042 people have died so far due to the virus. UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson on friday tested positive for coronavirus.

UK health minister tests positive for after Boris Johnson
Britain's Health Secretary Matt Hancock on Friday said he had tested positive for Covid-19, after Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he was self-isolating with "mild symptoms" of the virus.

"Following medical advice, I was advised to test for Coronavirus. I've tested positive. Thankfully my symptoms are mild and I'm working from home & self-isolating," Hancock announced on Twitter.

Pak opens border with China to receive medical supplies
Pakistan on Friday opened its borders with all-weather ally China for a day to accept Chinese medical supplies to fight the coronavirus outbreak which has infected nearly 1,300 people and killed nine others, officials said.

SBI sees around Rs 60k crore repayment getting deferred: Chairman
State Bank of India, which controls nearly a quarter of the banking system, on Friday said it sees Rs 50,000 to 60,000 crore of its repayment getting deferred following the three-month moratorium on term loans announced by the Reserve Bank of India.

The RBI move is aimed at providing borrowers some relief to borrowers, who are affected by the impact of lockdown on account of Covid-19.

"Our term loan book is fairly large and I think Rs 2-2.5 trillion gets paid every year, so for three months it would be Rs 50,000-60,000 crore," the bank's chairman Rajnish Kumar told reporters. Read more...
