Coronavirus LIVE: India cases rise to 873; Maharashtra total at 210

Coronavirus LIVE updates: Covid-19 continues to spread at a very fast pace and is impacting economies across the world. India on Friday recorded the highest number of coronavirus cases so far in a single day, taking its total to 873. The death toll has climbed to 19, according to health ministry. Meanwhile, India has entered Day-4 of complete lockdown.
The International Monetary Fund chief has said the global economy has entered recession and it will be much worse than the financial crisis of 2009.
World update: UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Friday tested positive for the virus and is in isolation at 10 Downing Street. While, the US surpassed China in Covid-19 cases, global infections have crossed 597,267 mark. As many as 27,360 people have died so far due to the virus.

Australian pro soccer player tests positive for coronavirus
An A-League soccer player has become the first Australian professional footballer to test positive for the new coronavirus.

The unnamed player, who plays for the Newcastle Jets in New South Wales state, was tested Friday as a precaution before an international flight. He played in recent A-League matches against Brisbane and Melbourne City.

Mother Dairy doubles supply of fruits, vegetables to over 300 tonne a day in Delhi-NCR
Mother Dairy has doubled its supply of fruits and vegetables in Delhi-NCR at over 300 tonne per day to meet the rising demand amid the nationwide lockdown even as it faces some logistics challenges, a senior company official said.

"Before the lockdown, we used to supply 160-180 tonne of fruits and vegetables per day in Delhi-NCR through our Safal retail stores. Now, we are supplying more than 300 tonne every day," said Pradipta Sahoo, business head of Safal.

On Friday, Mother Dairy supplied 320 tonne, he said adding the company could increase it to up to 400 tonne per day. READ ON...

Six more test coronavirus positive in Gujarat, count now 53
With six more persons testing positive for coronavirus in Gujarat, the number of such cases in the state has risen to 53, an official said on Saturday.

The six new cases were reported since Friday evening, the official said.

"As many as six new cases were reported since last evening, taking the number of such cases in the state to 53," Principal Secretary (Health) Jayanti Ravi said.

Three COVID-19 patients have so far died in the state- one each in Surat, Ahmedabad and Bhavnagar.

Trump invokes Defense Production Act to force GM to produce ventilators
US President Donald Trump on Friday invoked wartime Defense Production Act to force auto giant General Motors to manufacture ventilators, amid a supply shortage of the life-saving medical equipment in view of the mounting coronavirus cases. Price negotiations with the car company was taking time, Trump said. Trump signed a Presidential Memorandum directing the Secretary of Health and Human Services to use any and all authority available under the Defense Production Act to require General Motors (GM) to accept, perform, and prioritize federal contracts for ventilators.

Five of family test positive for COVID-19 in West Bengal
Five members of a family, including three children, tested positive for COVID-19 in West Bengal on Friday, taking the number of such cases in the state to 15, a senior health official said. Among the five are a nine-month-old baby, a six-year-old girl, an 11-year-old boy, and two women aged 27 and 45, he said. The 27-year-old woman had come in contact with a person from the UK who recently tested positive, the official added. The woman is from Tehatta in West Bengal's Nadia district but now lives in Uttarakhand, he said.

France reports 299 more coronavirus deaths, total toll 1,995
France on Friday reported that 299 more people had died in hospital from the coronavirus epidemic over the last 24 hours, bringing the total death toll from the epidemic in the country to 1,995. Top French health official Jerome Salomon told reporters that 32,964 people had tested positive for the virus so far in France, although the real number of cases is likely far higher as testing was reserved for high-risk patients. The daily toll, while severe, is lower than the 365 new deaths reported on Thursday. The toll in France does not include those who died at home or at retirement homes.
