Coronavirus LIVE: Odisha announces week-long lockdown starting Sunday

Coronavirus updates: The Covid-19 pandemic has claimed over 11,700 lives worldwide, most of them in Europe and Asia. Italy is the worst affected with over 4,000 fatalities, followed by China, the initial epicentre of the outbreak. In India, the total number of deaths stands at 4, while the number of infections reported is 283.
Responding to the rapid spread of the coronavirus and the PM's call for 'Janata Curfew', the Delhi government decided to shut Metro services on Sunday, March 22, even as the total number of cases in the Capital rose to 14.
Maharashtra, which has the highest number of cases, is under partial lock down, with shops, establishments and offices in Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur ordered to remain shut till March 31 by the Uddhav Thackeray-led state government. Essential services such as groceries, milk centres, pharmacies and banks are exempt from the restrictions which come into effect today midnight. All government offices in the state will function with 25 per cent attendance and local trains and buses will continue to operate as usual in Mumbai.

Europe-returned man tests positive for Covid-19, total 5 cases; over 1,600 under surveillance
One more person has tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Noida with authorities locking down his residential society for 48 hours to carry out sanitation work, as the number of identified COVID-19 cases reached five here, district officials said on Saturday.

The person, who returned from Europe three days ago, stays in Sector 74's Supertech Capetown, which has 6,000 flats, they said.

The society has been lockdown from 10 am on Saturday till 7 am on Monday for sanitisation, the officials said.

Health ministry organises training for critical care management at 1,000 places
The Union Health Ministry on Saturday carried out a training on critical care management at 1,000 locations in hospitals through video conference, and also said it will conduct a nationwide mock drill on Sunday for emergency response to handle COVID-19 cases.

Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Health Lav Agarwal told reporters that the government is likely to issue detailed order on the price cap and other aspects of testing of COVID-19 by private labs and emphasised that people should not go for coronavirus tests "out of fashion" or for "confidence-building".

Covid-19: Ola announces floater coverage of Rs 30,000 for 2 million driver partners
Ride-hailing firm Ola will offer a floater insurance cover of up to Rs 30,000 crore for its around 2 million registered driver partners and their spouses in case they are hit by coronavirus infection.

"All eligible Ola driver-partners and their spouses shall be covered by a floater sum of Rs 30,000 under which they can receive a compensation of Rs 1,000 per day for a maximum of 21 days for an individual from the date of a positive diagnosis for COVID- 19," Ola said in a statement.

Trade in Mumbai goes into lockdown as Uddhav govt shuts offices, shops
Even before Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked the country to observe a janata curfew this Sunday, Mumbai had already started taking the threat of coronavirus seriously as traffic and passengers on public transport dwindled over the week. Most offices, especially in the organised sector, are asking employees to work from home.

Malls are shut except for essential items, street food vendors have gone, and the famous khau gallis in market areas are empty. Even parks and beaches are desolate.

With Friday’s decision by the Maharashtra government to close all workplaces till March 31, except shops selling essential commodities and financial markets, will mean that there will be even lesser activity in Maximum City. Read on...

Rajnath appeals to people to make 'Janata curfew' huge success
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday appealed to the people to make 'Janata curfew' a huge success by staying at home on Sunday.

Singh said collective action is the need of the hour to contain the spread of Covid-19.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged Indians to stay at home from 7 am to 9 pm on Sunday to practice social distancing amid the coronavirus pandemic.

In his address to the nation on Thursday, he had termed the Sunday's stay at home activity as 'Janata curfew'.

Covid-19: Man with no foreign-travel history tests positive in Bengal
A 57-year-old man with no history of travelling abroad tested positive for novel coronavirus in West Bengal, making it the fourth confirmed case in the state, a health department official said on Saturday.

The resident of Dumdum in North 24 Parganas district was admitted to a private hospital on Monday with fever and dry cough. His symptoms intensified since Thursday, according to the official.

The man's samples tested positive twice and he is currently at an isolation ICU of the hospital, the official said.

Essential services will remain open during Janta Curfew: Haryana CM
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has said that establishments providing essential services, such as grocery shops, petrol pumps, medicine shops, will remain open in the state during 'Janta Curfew' on Sunday.

He urged the people of his state not to panic or fear and adhere to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal for observing a 'Janta Curfew' on March 22 to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus.
